Marcus balanced the silver serving tray carefully, moving between crowded tables while expensive laughter filled the elegant restaurant.
A woman suddenly recognized him and raised an eyebrow, staring at his uniform before bursting into a mocking laugh.
“Marcus, seriously? You’re serving tables now?” she asked, loud enough for everyone nearby to hear.
Marcus stopped beside her table, maintaining a calm expression as he replied, “Only tonight. I needed something to do.”
She laughed even harder, covering her mouth while her friends exchanged amused glances.
“Only tonight?” she repeated. “What happened? Did your big dreams finally run out of money?”
Marcus simply smiled and placed another glass onto the table without answering her cruel question.
Then a sharply dressed man hurried through the restaurant, looking unusually nervous as he approached Marcus.
He stopped beside him, lowered his head respectfully, and whispered, “Sir, the investors are waiting. The meeting cannot begin without you.”
The woman’s smile immediately disappeared, replaced by confusion as she stared between Marcus and the expensive-looking executive.
Marcus glanced toward the private dining room and calmly answered, “Tell them I’ll be there in two minutes.”
The executive nodded immediately. “Of course, Mr. Marcus.”
Silence suddenly spread across the table, and the woman slowly lowered the glass she had been holding.
“Mr. Marcus?” she whispered, her confidence beginning to collapse.
Marcus removed his serving vest and carefully placed it over the back of a chair.
Underneath, he wore a perfectly tailored dark suit, revealing a completely different presence from the quiet server she had mocked.
He adjusted his watch and walked toward the private dining room without even looking back.
“Wait,” the woman called nervously. “Marcus, what is happening?”
He stopped briefly but did not turn around.
“You asked what happened to my dreams,” he said calmly. “Nothing happened to them. They became much bigger.”
Her face became pale as several executives standing nearby respectfully stepped aside for him.
One investor opened the private room door and greeted Marcus with a firm handshake.
“Everyone is ready, chairman. We were waiting for your final approval.”
The woman heard those words from across the restaurant, and her stomach dropped.
“Chairman?” she whispered, realizing the man she had ridiculed was actually the owner and chairman of the entire investment group.
Her friends suddenly stopped laughing, avoiding her eyes as she remembered every cruel word she had spoken.
Marcus entered the meeting room, leaving her standing alone beside the table.
Minutes later, he returned briefly and looked at her with neither anger nor arrogance.
“You were right about one thing,” he said. “Tonight, I was serving tables.”
She swallowed nervously and asked, “Then why would someone like you do that?”
Marcus smiled gently. “Because leadership means remembering what every person in this restaurant deserves.”
Then he walked away, leaving her with a lesson far more expensive than any dinner she could afford.
