The spotless kitchen gleamed beneath warm lights when the woman in red casually lifted her wineglass and poured it onto the floor.
The maid froze, still gripping her mop, staring at the red stain spreading across the freshly cleaned marble.
“clean it again,” the woman ordered coldly, crossing her arms as though nothing unusual had happened.
The maid swallowed her tears and whispered, “yes, ma'am,” before kneeling beside the spreading wine.
“You missed a spot earlier,” the woman sneered, knowing perfectly well the entire floor had just been cleaned.
The maid quietly lowered her head and began wiping everything again while the woman watched with cruel satisfaction.
“faster,” she snapped, tapping her glass against the counter. “i don't have all night.”
The maid's hands trembled, but she continued scrubbing without answering the insults.
Then the kitchen door suddenly opened, and a sharply dressed man stepped inside holding a bouquet of white roses.
The woman in red immediately turned around, expecting to see someone she could easily manipulate.
Instead, she found her fiancé standing silently behind her, watching everything with a cold, unreadable expression.
“how long have you been standing there?” she asked nervously, suddenly realizing something had gone terribly wrong.
He looked at the wine on the floor and calmly asked, “did you just pour that deliberately?”
She forced a laugh and replied, “it was an accident, darling. she was supposed to clean it anyway.”
His eyes moved toward the exhausted maid before returning slowly to the woman in red.
“an accident?” he repeated, his voice becoming colder. “then why did you order her to clean it again?”
She stepped closer and whispered, “don't embarrass me in front of the staff.”
He immediately answered, “you're embarrassing yourself.”
The maid stopped moving, realizing the man she had feared might finally be seeing the truth.
The woman in red nervously asked, “weren't you supposed to be in new york tonight?”
He smiled without warmth and replied, “that was exactly what i wanted you to believe.”
Her face went pale as she understood that his unexpected return had exposed everything she normally hid.
He placed the roses on the counter and said, “i came home early because i wanted to surprise my future wife.”
Then he glanced toward the maid and quietly added, “instead, i discovered the woman i was planning to marry.”
The woman reached for his hand, desperately pleading, “please, listen to me before judging me.”
He pulled away and answered, “i listened for months, but tonight i finally watched.”
The kitchen became painfully silent as he removed the engagement ring from her finger.
“take it off,” he ordered, his voice leaving no room for negotiation.
She stared at him in disbelief and cried, “you can't end everything over a glass of wine.”
He shook his head and replied, “i'm ending it because that glass revealed who you really are.”
She stood speechless as he pointed toward the doorway and said, “leave my house immediately.”
After she disappeared, he picked up the white roses and gently handed them to the stunned maid.
“from now on,” he promised, “no one in this house will ever treat you without respect again.”
The maid held the flowers against her chest, finally realizing that tonight, the cruelest person in the kitchen had lost everything.
